SPRING CLEAN UP

Re:     SPRING CLEAN UP

It’s that time of year again: the weather is warmer, the snow has melted (hopefully for good), and the city’s roads crews are starting their annual spring clean up.

This morning I received notice from roads that thanks to the warmer than expected weather their crews are starting the spring clean-up today – one week earlier than scheduled.  Over the next two months the spring clean-up will move through residential communities removing sanding materials and other debris that has accumulated over the last year.

Every year city crews collect about 50 000 tonnes of debris.  That’s enough to cover the playing field at McMahon stadium in 4 meters of gravel and debris!

You can help the city ensure that the spring clean-up program is successful by watching for signs, obeying temporary parking restrictions and removing your cars and blue and black bins from the street on clean-up days in your community.  Sweepers cannot return to sweep residual material that is left behind due do blue/black bins or parked cars until after the Spring Clean Up program is complete, and then will do so on a service-request basis.

City crews will put up signage advising you of when clean-up work will be done in your community.  You can also call 3-1-1 or visit http://www.calgary.ca/sweep for more information and the clean-up dates scheduled for your community.
