Southwood Community Gardens
Interest is growing in establishing a Community Garden in Southwood.
We are especially interested in reaching out to work with other community groups and businesses. Please let us know if you, your business or community group are interested in working together with us or if you could offer a letter or support, labour, skills, equipment or other donations.
We would like to welcome anyone interested in to attend our community meeting
Thursday September 16th at 6:30pm
at the Southwood Community Association Centre in the Upper Hall.
In addition to starting community garden near the community hall we are looking at projects involving composting; fruit tree registry; plant a row; grow a row for donation; educational info sessions; food preservation workshops; farmers market; many hands work swap; garden share and more.
Are you interested in gardening projects in Southwood? Some possible projects may include community gardens; fruit tree registry; plant a row; grow a row for donation; educational info sessions; food preservation workshops; farmers market; community fair; many hands work swap; garden share and more.
Projects:
1) Southwood Community Garden
Come out to our meeting if you are interested in helping set up a community garden for 2011.
2) Fruit Tree Registry
Don’t let your good fruit go to waste!
If you have a fruit tree in your yard let us know. We will catalogue it and help arrange volunteers to help harvest if you are unable. We will also post a record of fruit trees and shrubs in the neighborhood to help in your acquisition of cross pollinators.
3) Plant a Row, Grow a Row
Plant a little extra food in your garden this year and we will help distribute it to those in need. Volunteers can be arranged to help harvest the food in late summer.
4) Community Beautification
Please let us know if you have any ideas for community beautification or are willing to volunteer to water the planters along Elbow Drive.
Please contact us at southwoodcommunitygardens.com, join our facebook group called “southwood community gardens” or call Teresa at 403-539-1364 if you are interested in any of these projects, have other ideas, or want to know more.
