Transit Oriented Development (TOD)

Anderson Station Area Plan

City Council has identified Anderson Station as one of several priority areas for Transit Oriented Development. Transit Oriented Development (TOD) is a walkable, mixed-use form of area development typically focused within a 600 metre radius of a transit station – a Light Rail Transit (LRT) station or Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) stop, prior to the arrival of LRT. As part of Calgary’s new growth strategy, the Anderson Station Area Plan will guide redevelopment around the station over the next 30 to 40 years, with the goal of creating a liveable community where local residents and visitors can live, work, shop, and play without being car-dependent.

Mobility Assessment Plan (M.A.P.)

Beginning in September 2009, an Advisory Committee comprised of community stakeholders was engaged in a transportation study examining vehicle traffic and other modes of travel in the Anderson station area. The M.A.P. will make recommendations to improve mobility for pedestrians, bicycles, transit, and automobiles while the station area develops over time. The MAP is near completion, and will be made available to the public and the Community Advisory Committee through information sessions in the new year.

Plan To Date

Planning for the Anderson Station Area Plan began in with a Public Information Session on November 29, 2007. Throughout the planning process area residents have been involved in visioning and land use exercises resulting in the preparation of a Draft Station Area Plan that area residents viewed and provided feedback on in November 2008.

The Anderson Station Area Plan is currently being drafted into a proposed plan, incorporating area residents feedback and findings from the M.A.P. process. The proposed plan is expected to be made public in early 2010 with the opportunity for additional public feedback at that time.
